Udi eyes upset at Heartland

Sunshine Stars head coach Duke Udi is positive his side will commence brilliantly their top-flight title chase at returnee side, Heartland.

The Akure landlords are guests of the Naze Millionaires in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 1 clash at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

Duke said he welcomes wholeheartedly the commencement of the new league season as his side are determined to excel more than they performed previously.

“So far so good, I must confess, as it concerned our preparations for the commencement of the new league season.

“We are thankful to God for journey mercy down to Owerri for our matchday 1 clash against Heartland.

“The league is about to kick off, we pray for the best tournament, good game, officiating, security and spectatorship.

“Security is quite key and vital for an entertaining, fulfilling and rewarding season.

“We are here to give the hosts, Heartland the very best game of the season.

“We are ready for the season as we have done virtually everything we need to do as a team to excel in the new season.

“The management, government and other stakeholders have done the needful to motivate and prepare the team for good outing.

“We had one month closed camping in the serene ground of Olashore International School in lloko-ljesa, Osun state.

“We engaged the team in few low profile friendly matches as that was what we could lay our hands on.

“We used the opportunity to test the old and new players on the detailed programmes we want to prosecute in the new season.

“I think we have been able to assemble the best legs that will perform the magic for the side.

“They are in high spirit and ready to go and unleash their strengths on the opponents.

“Our agendas for the season are to win continental ticket, better our performance last season and cement the premiership status,” he told supersport.com.

Udi helped the side to finish last season in 10th position on 54 points in the 20-team top-flight.
