Super Falcons mount stage against France


As the Super Eagles take a little break before engaging England and Congo in their Russia 2015 FIFA World Cup build-up, the attention now is on the Super Falcons of Nigeria as they take the stage in a top class friendly match against France.

The eight –time African champions are scheduled to match up against French Women national team at the Stade MMArena in the city of Le Mans, France by 9pm (Nigeria Time), on Friday, April 6.

Coach Thomas Dennerby whose maidens composed entirely of home–based professionals took third place at the WAFU Women Cup of Nations in Abidjan in February following penalty shoot-out defeat by Ghana in the semi finals, will have the complement of foreign-based top shots for the duel.

Nigeria’s 17-woman list includes Rita Chikwelu who captained the team to win their eighth continental title in Cameroon in December 2016. She is joined by big forward Desire Oparanozie, effervescent Francisca Ordega, nimble-footed midfielder Ngozi Okobi and home-based goalkeepers Onyinyechukwu Okeke and Chiamaka Nnadozie.

U.S –based forward Courtney Dike and Ordega would be first arrivals in Le Mans on Tuesday, April 3, the same day the delegation from Nigeria will depart from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The Super Falcons will lodge at the Mercure Le Mans Centre.

Born July 13, 1965, Fred Edoreh hails from Umeh, Isoko South, Delta State. He attended St. John Primary School, Iselegu, Mater Dei Collage Ashaka, St. Patrick’s Grammar School, Asaba for HSC and graduated in English and Literary Studies at Bendel State University, Ekpoma.
