Rugby: Super Cup now Feb 18

The prestigious annual Super Cup of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation will now hold on February 18 to effectively kick off activities for the new rugby season. The new date is a slight shift from an earlier one announced by the NRFF at the beginning of the year.

The Super Cup match involving Barewa Rugby Club and Cowrie Rugby Club is scheduled to hold at the Old Parade Ground, Garki Area 10 (Opposite International Conference Centre) Abuja.

Speaking on the event, the NRFF Director of Rugby, Olatunji Fasimoye, assured that so much has been put in place to ensure it keeps up to its high billing.

“The Super Cup is a great way to start the new season with the Northern and South-West League winners Barewa Rugby Club and Cowrie Rugby Club, respectively, battling it out in a showpiece occasion in front of a big crowd.

Looking around our various Leagues, We expect all clubs to have strengthened up going into the new campaign and with very high expectation on the players.”

The February 18 Super Cup fixture is to be preceded by the Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation on February 4 at the Media Centre of the National Stadium, Lagos.

The AGM was earlier fixed for December but had to be shifted to allow the NRFF President, Sir Edward Fom, take part in the Rugby Africa’s General Assembly.
