NPFL Update: Abia Warriors sign Brazilian coach

In apparent head start for the next Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia has announced the signing of Brazilian coach Rafeal Everton Lira as team handler.

This was contained in a short news flash by the club’s Media Officer, Igwe Onuoha, on Thursday evening.

Rafael Everton was coach of FC IfeanyiUbah with which he won the 2016 Federation Cup and also took the club to the top four of the NPFL in same season.

The coach who spent about 10 months with IfeanyiUbah before leaving , said he had enjoyed working in Nigeria and looked forward to another opportunity which appears to have been consummated with Abia Warriors.

Abia Warriors finished 12th on the NPFL log after putting up a spirited last quarter performance to sail away from the red zone. The club had had coach Kennedy Boboye with whom they parted ways during the 2017 season and Boboye would go on to win the NPFL title with Plateau United.

Rafael Everton had short playing stints with FC Flumenese and Sport Club Recife but retired early due to recurrent injuries and went on to train as a coach alongside the legendary Diego Simeone of Athletico Madrid.
