The New Media Journalists (NMJ) have congratulated Rivers United for defeating Wikki Tourists 1-0 to emerge champions of 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Pre Season Super Four tournament hosted in Enugu.

Stanley Eguma’s Pride of Rivers finished top of the table with 6 points ahead of Enugu Rangers who accumulated 5 points.

In a statement on Tuesday, the NMJ praised Rivers United for their doggedness and resilience which earned them the accolade.

The body, while praising the players for the discipline and superlative skills they showed in all their matches, implored them to remain focused.

“The competition was a hitch free one and at the end of the hostilities Rivers United won. We congratulate them on the success and hope that will spur the team to greater exploits on the continent and their future engagements,” part of the statement read.

“We wish to congratulate the LMC for its outstanding organisation of a competition of that magnitude. We urge them to keep the flag flying.”

“We also wish to congratulate the players, club officials, match officials and fans for their collective efforts that made the tournament be a success.”

The pre-season tournament was organised for the four clubs that will represent Nigeria in African clubs competitions in the year 2017
