Coach David Samson Unuanel, has described the Nigeria Football Coaches Association as a body that is not united and reason why he does not have coaches friend than Enyimba coach, Gbenga Ogunbote.
Unuanel, while speaking with sportstalkafrica.com said if the coaches association is united the immediate past Sunshine Stars coach, Solomon Ogbeide, wouldn’t have taken his job when he and the then technical director, Henry Abiodun, had misunderstandings that led to their suspension.
The former Kwara United gaffer said Ogbeide who’s the national Secretary of Coaches Association in the country, instead of him to settle dispute between two coaches, went ahead to take up the job.
He said that was why it was difficult for any local coach to get the job of a national team coach, even if he or she has the prerequisite qualifications, because the process of getting such jobs depends on who you know in the Nigeria Football Federation or the political godfather you have in government.
The former Prime FC coach said many of the Nigerian clubs coaches who are not voicing out their displeasures from the treatments they are getting, even from the clubs they are working for or handling, are dying in silence.
DSU as he is fondly called said he had work with more than eight clubs in Nigeria, but still can’t afford to take his family on vacation outside the shores of the country because of not being paid regularly as he is being owed over N40 million by some of the clubs he had worked for and said same scenario applies to most of the club coaches in the country.
He however said he never regretted working as a football coach and that he would be happy to die as a coach despite all the challenges he is facing from the profession because of the love he has for the sport.
