NBBF hails First Bank 3rd Place Continental finish

The Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF has hailed the reigning Nigeria Women Basketball League champions, First Bank Basketball club on their 3rd place finish at the just concluded FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women (ACCW) 2016 in Maputo, Mozambique.

President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Mr Tijjani Umar sent a congratulatory message to the management of the two time African champions popularly known as the Elephant Girls on Tuesday, 6th December, 2016 . In the letter , the NBBF President celebrated the team as great ambassadors and hailed First Bank PLC the proprietors of the club for their consistency in improving the lives of women through basketball.

“ We heartily congratulate the players, staff and management of First Bank Basketball club for ably representing Nigeria and clinching the bronze medal at the ACCW in Mozambique on Sunday. Your dominance over the last two decades and the relentless commitment of First Bank PLC to develop the lives of young women in Nigeria cannot be over appreciated”.

“We wish you many more success”. He added

The Nigerian 2 Time Queens of the continent in 2003 and 2009, defeated defending champions Angolan side Primeiro D’Agosto 62-54 in the 3rd place playoffs to earn the bronze thanks to a strong second-half on Sunday. Meanwhile Local rivals to D’Agosto InterClube de Luanda improved their status as the most successful women’s club in Africa as they ran home with

their 5th title in 7 years in their defeat of hosts Ferroviario de Maputo 67-49.

Born July 13, 1965, Fred Edoreh hails from Umeh, Isoko South, Delta State. He attended St. John Primary School, Iselegu, Mater Dei Collage Ashaka, St. Patrick’s Grammar School, Asaba for HSC and graduated in English and Literary Studies at Bendel State University, Ekpoma.
