Governor of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom has expressed delight over Lobi Stars Football Club winning the 4th edition of Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament in Ijebu Ode.
He stated this at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, as the team presented the trophy and dummy cheque won to members of the State Executive Council.
Dr Ortom who was visibly excited about the win, particularly commended the management of the team led by the Chairman Engr. Benson Abounu and Vice Chairman Mike idoko for achieving the feat despite the lean resources at the club’s disposal.
He called on the team to redouble its efforts ahead of the new Nigeria Professional Football League season, while commending their superlative display last season.
Earlier, Vice Chairman of the team Mike Idoko stressed that the Gold Cup was a highly competitive tourney which featured great teams like former league champions Kano Pillars, Enyimba Intl FC, MFM FC, Lobi Stars, Niger Tornadoes, FC Ebedei, Sunshine Stars, Crown FC and newly promoted Remo Stars Football Club.
He thanked the governor for the support given the team and assured of a better 2016/2017 season.
