Boxing: Ekundayo heads to world stage

Former Africa Boxing Union Welterweight champion and London Regional Amateur Boxing Association champion, Nigeria born Larry Ekundayo is set to leap into the world elite boxing stage.
Top ranked world boxing promoter, Frank Warren, has announced that Ekundayo, nicknamed “The Natural”  will be fighting for the Web Inter continental Welterweight  title at the Copper Box Arena, London on July 8 
  as the main support to Billy Joe Saunders who headlines the night in to defend his world title live on BTSports. 
 
Larry Ekundayo, undefeated in his professional career (12-0) from 2012 when he when defeated three opponents in one night to emerge the Light Middleweight PrizeFighter champion in London will fight against the highly ranked and much feared Gary Corcoran who has an impressive (16-1) record and has recently campaigned at a higher weight division.
Should Ekundayo overcome Corcoran in the WBO Inter Continental title,  he will be elevated in WBO world rankings for a world title shot. 
 
Interestingly, the University of Lagos graduate has the current world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, behind him with Joshua going further to record a special message requesting that all Nigerians to also support Larry in his forthcoming title fight.
In same vein, the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, has accorded Ekundayo royal blessings with promises of further material support.
Similarly, the Nigeria House of Representatives also passed a resolution to support Ekundayo who I now thrilled that the whole nation of Nigeria, including compatriots in the Diaspora are solidly behind him.
 
Speaking from his training base in London, Ekundayo who proudly wears the green and white of Nigeria into battle could not hide his excitement and gratitude.
“I would really like to thank my management team, MTK, for arranging this title shot and for Frank Warren for giving me an opportunity to showcase my skills in front of a global audience, ” he said. 
 
“They have recently passed a bill in the Nigerian National Assembly to help support me and help bring big time boxing back to Nigeria, if we as fighters are supported correctly we can rule the world of boxing!”y
