Encouraged by the improving performance of Akwa United of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in the Nigeria Professional Football League, management of the club is tasking itself to do everything possible to sustain the high spirit of the players.

Players and officials of the team returned from their away trip to Bauchi to a pleasant surprise as club chairman, Paul Bassey, announced a 66% increase on their away draw bonus, opting to pay them the amount fixed for away win, for holding hosts Wikki Tourists to a goalless draw.

Accordingly, the players received N50,000 for the vital one point from Bauchi, enjoying N20,000 addition on the standard bonus N30,000 for away draws.

The veteran journalist, publisher and sports administrator of international repute, said the club management was impressed with the team’s performance in that match and urged them to double their efforts in future games in order to pick more away points.

Team Manager, Emmanuel Udoh while thanking Bassey for repositioning the club with few weeks in office, noted with excitement that the team has upped its game and assured they will come away with the maximum three points as they return on the road to play El Kanemi Warriors in Katsina on Wednesday.

Team captain Otobong Effiong also assured that they are fully prepared with determination to wrestle all three points from for El Kanemi.

“We are set for the match. All of us are in one mind to win the game,” Effiong.
