MARIAH OLATUNJI

Adeola Olufunmilayo has said he and his teamates have arrived China safely ahead of this weekend Nanning international Half Marathon .

Adeola alongside Muibat Ogunkoya, yohana Dinatu, Shehu Shagari and Philomina Ihekandu departed Nigeria on Wednesday afternoon.

The long dista img-20161201-wa0009 nce runner who told www.sportstalkafrica.com that he is fully prepared for the tournament also talked on other issues.

HOW PREPARED ARE YOU FOR THIS TOURNAMENT?

“By God’s grace, my preparation for this tournament has been solid and in top gear thanks to my coach who had painstakingly orchestrated the training plan towards the tournament”

WHAT ARE YOUR MOTIVATIONS AND CHALLENGES?.

First of all, my motivation is my belief in the grace of God backing me in my athletic pursuit. Also, my passion for running distances keeps me going, motivating me despite disappointments encountered over the years.

My challenge has always been with injury which sets me back. But after the first quarter of the year, I have been able to stay injury free till now and I thank God for this.

Do you think Atheltics Federation of Nigeria  and the Government are doing enough to help ma img-20161201-wa0007 rathoners?

Well I am not in position to judge AFN and Govt as concerning their responsibility in promoting marathoners. But from the years I have been a professional athlete, little has been done to encourage marathoners and long distance races in Nigeria. They have to wake up to this realisation an believe in us and generation of marathoners to come that we can bring glory to the country.

Do you think Nigeria can challenge the eastern runners?

Absolutely yes! By God’s grace I went on a training tour to Kenya and it was really an eye opener. 99% of Nigerian marathoners are just ill- equipped as it concerns sponsorship so they have to fend for themselves to eat, get kits and transport themselves. These our  problems  gave  the Eastern Runners serious advantage. Camps are set up with full sponsorship for runners from companies li img-20161201-wa0008 ke Nike, Addidas, and big sporting agencies.

What are you promising your fans?

I promise my fans an exceptional performance in this tournament. All I need is their prayers and I believe in God that I won’t disappoint them.
